Sichuan is known for their spicy foods, but I absolutely love their sweets a lot more! This is called fried brown sugar balls 紅糖油果子, one of the signature sweet street foods here. It’s made by frying a glutinous rice dough then coating it with melted brown sugar & white sesame. It looks really hard so I gave a bit of strength when I bite it, but it’s actually quite fluffy & a bit hallow inside. It’s a mix of crunchy & chewy texture, with the sweetness of the brown sugar glaze.
